Tell your school to take a hike!
Any kid with diabetes knows that staying healthy is a 24-hour job. Sometimes this can make school days a little harder than usual. That's why there's a Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes, aimed just at schools.
Raising money for diabetes research is not only educational. It can be fun, too. Some principals choose to hold special fund-raising events, such as Caps for a Cure day, when students wear their favorite hats to school and donate money to JDRF. Activities in class and assemblies for the whole school help spread awareness about diabetes. And everybody gets to go for a mini-walkathon, just like the Walk to Cure Diabetes.
Best of all, your teachers and classmates will understand more about what it's like to be a family that is dealing with diabetes.
For tools and classroom guides, parents and teachers may visit JDRF's Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes site or contact a local JDRF chapter to find out more about how to get their school involved.
