| Ali, 14, Pennsylvania "When I first heard about the insulin pump, I thought the idea of having something attached to you 24 hours a day sounded horrible. It sounded restraining. Later, when I decided to get it, I couldn't beleive the "freedom" I had!!! It was anything BUT restraining! Now, I can play sports and be a TEENAGER, plus...no shots!" |
Arianna, 13, Connecticut "The insulin pump has allowed me to sleep in, eat more, and play activities, but it is a lot of work and definitely does not make diabetes easy!" |
Madison, 8 "I love my insulin pump. Before I went on the pump 14 months ago, I was taking 7 shots a day and still not under control. I am still working to keep my sugars under control, but the pump lets me continue to play roller hockey, take dance, swim, and play other sports. I love my pump!" |
Melissa, 12, New York "They have come out with great technology, but for a diabetic this is by far one of the best. It has its up and downs, but it definitely gives us more freedom. I have had the pump for 2 1/2 years, and only about 2 times something has seriously went wrong. One time I jumped into the pool with my pump (it is not waterproof). Luckily it did not break, but I had to sit on hold with a technician. Another time I didn't realize and my set came out (my number was too high — over 600 — for my meter to read it). I still think that it keeps my numbers more controlled and I can give insulin in just the push of a button!!" |
Tommy, 9, Connecticut "I think the pump makes it fun because you can eat whenever you want. It also makes you shot-FREE. But I also still check my blood 6-10 times a day. But the first day sucks because you have to check your blood every hour..." |
Nicole, 5 "It is gonna be good!!! I would like to try one. I'm 5 years old and my doctor wants me to wait!" |
Anne "I don't have a pump yet but I was wondering whether I should get it or not, because my parents said it's up to me." |
| "Dolphincrazyme" "It helped me so much. I can eat when I want now." |
