If you've already learned to control your own diabetes, you can volunteer to help younger kids with diabetes, either at hospitals, medical centers, or diabetes camps.
You can tell newly diagnosed kids what it's like to live day to day with diabetes. They will see a healthy, active person who is living well and excelling with diabetes. And when you reach out to help someone else, your problems seem to become more manageable.
Where to find volunteer opportunities: Your local JDRF chapter; your diabetes center; your healthcare team
Advice for volunteers: Think of any type of diabetes volunteer work and Megan Connor, 17, has probably done it.
