Anonymous I've gone to a diabetes camp in South Dakota. I had the best time ever. It was fun being around other kids with diabetes and being able to do the same things other kids did without having to be treated differently. I cant wait till I go back.
Anela, 11, Camp He Ola Ke Keiki, Waianae My favorite thing at camp was being around other children with diabetes. It was having fun, swimming, kayaking, crafts, laughing, and just knowing that I am not alone. As people with type 1 diabetes, we still can have fun and enjoy life and try our best to make the most of it. I really hope a cure is found for me and all my diabetes buddies.
Shannon I'd say camp is about your own freedom. It's about helping us with control, giving our parents a break. Camp teaches a great lesson and being there for 3 years you don't get homesick. Camp is my second home. I'll tell you one thing.. It's very upsetting leaving camp after summer is over.
Rachel, 16, Texas Lions Camp Being at camp is the most awesome feeling! Being around people who all have diabetes is awesome, and seeing the variety of people is great. I had so much fun and in 2 years, I'll be back as a counselor!
Kasey I like going to my diabetes camp because I get to do fun activities and not feel different!!
Eva, 13, Camp Needlepoint, Wisconsin My favorite thing about camp was definitely meeting new people with diabetes. It was great hearing their experiences and having people that really truly know what you are going through.
Sarah, Florida I love going to Camp Winona in Florida. My favorite thing about camp is meeting new friends and hanging with them. The hardest thing about camp is having to leave all your friends behind.
Jake, 13, Texas Lions Camp, Texas The thing I liked most about the camp was that I was able to talk to other kids about my problems with diabetes. Many of the counselors had diabetes so I was able to talk to them, too. It gave me a chance to realize their are millions of other people who deal with the same things I do day after day.
